The Co-op

Eight Oaks Housing Co-operative is a 42-unit family-oriented community located in a park-like environment in the heart of Vancouver, B.C. Our name comes from the eight large oak trees that surround the building, providing plenty of shade and lots of character.

We’re located at Cambie St and 20th, with easy access to the Canada Line skytrain as well as a regular bus service. Cambie Village has plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, drugstores and supermarkets, etc. Best of all, we are surrounded by lots of green space: Douglas Park to the west, Queen Elizabeth Park to the south, both of which have community centres.

We are an active and vibrant community, based on active participation. Members need to join one or more of our committees: social, membership, maintenance, finance or the board of directors. The fundamental difference between a co-op and an apartment building is that a co-op is not privately owned and does not have a landlord or private company manage it. This means that the members of the co-op operate and maintain the property. This is done by deciding on what and how things get done, in a cooperative manner. Eight Oaks is a well-maintained building. Participation and involvement are the keys to our success.

Eight Oaks is a great place to live, to socialize, as individuals or as a family. Our community regularly celebrates social occasions, from summer barbecues to fall pumpkin carvings, with regular potluck dinners year-round. Come by for a visit and find out more about us!
